Balance Re-Education

Proprioception and Neuromuscular Re-Education

There are many factors that create balance or perception deficits in our bodies that can  alter the brain’s ability to tell our body how to move or respond to quick changes in our environment. They include but are not limited to:

  • Surgical Intervention
  • Pain
  • Joint and Tissue Dysfunction
  • Age
  • Vision Changes
  • Inner Ear or Vestibular Disorders

Most people can retrain or develop new strategies for these deficits. An optimal balance strategy is imperative for safe navigation in your house, workplace, grocery store and even more so for recreation and sports activities. Therapists at RHC will assess your balance and proprioceptive reactions and use specific activities to re-educate your neuromuscular system both in the clinic and for home so you can retrain, enhance and maintain a healthy balance to your life. For some it may be as important as learning to walk again without an assistive device and for others as specific as being able to walk safely across a beam at a high-rise construction site.
